The Journal of Numerical Thanatochronometry is a peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to continuous publication of leading research in death-time estimation by mechanistic/numerical simulation. This research historically appears in journals of forensic pathology, law, legal medicine or computational biology. Emerging research on numerical methods of death-time estimation now allows numerical thanatochronometry to be defined as a stand-alone science. Numerical death-time estimation involves expertise in forensic pathology and multiple other disciplines, many non-medical, and a number of them are increasingly adopting computational methods and numerical simulation techniques. This diversity and lack of common cross-discipline expertise frustrate publication of emerging research in established journals. The Journal of Numerical Thanatochronometry is a common platform purposely created to address these challenges.
